CCH student Composer’s Work Performed in HKAFYFS “Young Composer Showcase”

Our student Zhou Man Sing from Honest 4 participated in the Young Composer Workshop 2020/21 organized by the Young Friends of the Hong Kong Arts Festival. His production '2020-2021' was performed on 10th April in the event of Young Composer Showcase.

Two locally-renowned composers Dr Phoebus Lee Kar Tai and Dr Austin Yip Ho Kwen were cordially invited to be the course instructors, teaching local secondary school students the characteristics of folk music and basic compositional techniques. The workshop aims at providing opportunities to youngsters whose ambition is to be a composer to receive guidance from professional composers and have their productions released.

Nine local secondary school students were openly recruited. They were required to finish a 3-month workshop, a total of 10 training sessions, followed by a 5-min long production based on the theme 'world cultures'. with the use of a specific musical instrument (violin, cello, flute, clarinet and percussion). Each composition is entitled to one of the given five cultural themes, including South American, Czech, Russian, Chinese and Hong Kong.
